Safe Storage and Disposal

Smilin Steve’s Pharmacies is committed to helping our communities handle prescriptions safely. Safe storage and proper disposal of prescription drugs are critical tools to reduce improper use of medications that can lead to accidental overdose, addiction, and environmental contamination.

We make it easy

One of the easiest ways to make sure your unused or unwanted prescriptions don’t end up in the wrong hands is to properly dispose of them when you know you no longer need them.

Smilin Steve’s makes proper disposal easy and convenient by having permanent prescription drop boxes available at most of our retail locations:

Rutland Pharmacy
Ludlow Pharmacy
Springfield Pharmacy
Ottauquechee Pharmacy

Just look for the drop box kiosk located near the pharmacy counter and drop your prescription in! Medications can be in prescription bottles or in bags. The kiosks accepts pills and patches (no liquids or sharps please).

We are also proud to participate in the National Prescription Drug DEA Take Back Day! This twice a year event is held in collaboration with law enforcement and other community partners.

The most recent Take Back Day was held on Saturday, October 28, 2023 and the next National Take Back Day will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024.
